Dining In - The Chef’s Table

The Krug Room, Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong
Dining at the Krug Room at the Mandarin Oriental is a truly indulgent affair and one of Hong Kong's best-kept secrets. One of only four Krug Rooms in the world, this exclusive room is located behind a hidden doorway inside the hotel's kitchen. But don’t let this fool you – the setting is intimate yet sophisticated. Seating up to ten, a bar-height table ensures guests are on the same eye level as Executive Chef Uwe Opocensky and his team as they put on a stunning show behind a huge glass window. Beautifully designed Krug name-card holders, fresh white roses and a bespoke chandelier made from piles of plates and bowls are among the finishing touches that make the Krug Room special.

Housing an unrivalled collection of the world's most prestigious champagnes, the Krug Room sets itself apart with its concept of pairing molecular cuisine with exceptionally rare Krug varieties. A blackboard at the far end of the room displays the chef's menu, handwritten in chalk similar to the chalk that the Krug cellars are carved into. Throughout the meal, Uwe is on hand to talk guests through the tailor-made tasting menu and personalize dishes according to preference. The signature dishes of Apple Caviar, Cod 'Monte Carlo' and Rain are a real treat for the palate and each course is perfectly complemented by the diverse personalities of the Krug collection.

The Krug Room can be booked for brunch, lunch and dinner for a starting price of HK$20,000 *(US$2,580). For all-out extravagance, an optional limousine pick-up service is also available. For reservations, call +852 2825 4014.
