As if modern Ferraris weren’t attractive enough, a new, Dutch company calling themselves Vandenbrink Design has announced that it is building an ultra-limited edition of just five GTOs, which are re-bodied 599 GTB Fiorano supercars. As with the other coachbuilt Ferraris in this story, the inspiration behind the GTO is clearly a retrospective one. The good news is, from the concept sketches, this romantic vision of a young designer and a wealthy engineering entrepreneur has been met with much enthusiasm, with three of the five cars already pre-sold. Given that the 599 GTB the GTO is based on is such a phenomenal car, we can’t wait to see how the finished item has improved on its superstar underpinnings.

Although coachbuilding on a grand scale will probably never happen again,
the future is looking rosy for this bespoke art. With renewed interest
in this most spectacular field, more and more of the world’s wealthy collectors
are sure to turn to automotive design houses to build them their own,
individual object of fantasy. Already, with newcomers Fisker Coachbuild
and Vandenbrink Design showing signs of success, and with more orders
from the big, old names – like Zagato again, with their forthcoming Diatto
Ottovu, to be unveiled in Geneva this month (March) – on the way, we can
look forward to seeing more and more bespoke works of motorized art in
the years to come.
