Adventures of a Lifetime: When money is no object, the sky is the limit when it comes to organizing a once-in-a-lifetime holiday. Want to jet off into outer space? No problem. What about joining a Russian icebreaker to explore the North Pole? Easy. Greg Waldron takes you on six incredible journeys.
Childhood vacations bring back fond memories for many people. These memories, often deep in the past, tend to remind one of great adventure and discovery. Many adults have given up on this sense of wonder, but it is entirely possible to rekindle this long lost sense of naïve enjoyment. We look at four super exclusive, once-in-a-lifetime holidays that promise adventure, excitement, and that have the potential to rank with the magical holidays of one’s childhood.
Nine Wonders by Private Jet
There may be some doubt about the composition of the Nine Wonders of the World, but there can be no doubt that visiting nine likely candidates aboard a private jet makes for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Nine World Wonders by Private Jet, an exclusive holiday package organised by US travel agency Abercrombie & Kent, starts in Miami, Florida, and circles the world visiting ancient sites in Central America, the South Pacific, Asia and the Middle East. It ends in New York City. The three-week adventure spans the world of antiquity. In Central America, you will visit Mayan temples, learning about the ancient tribes of the region from eminent archeologists. On remote Easter Island you’ll have cocktails over the sea near Ahu Tahai, a burial site guarded by the island’s three renowned stone heads.

At Cambodia’s Angkor Wat you will see stone remains of one Asia’s great extinct cultures, returning in the evening to the Raffles Grand Hotel d'Angkor, a luxury hotel built in the early 20th century for wealthy French travelers. In India, you will visit the majestic Taj Mahal before heading to Egypt, where you dine under the stars looking out over the great pyramids.
The mysterious pyramids at Giza
In India, you will visit the majestic Taj Mahal before heading to Egypt, where you dine under the stars looking out over the great pyramids. The plane itself is also somewhat of a wonder, a Boeing 757-200ER passenger jet equipped with just 48 seats – in commercial service the 757 normally carries 186 passengers. There is plenty of room to stretch out and every passenger enjoys the comfort of a lie-flat first class seat. For less sedentary passengers there is a lounge area for mingling.

On the ground there is only more of the best. Abercrombie and Kent stresses, “We’ve chosen accommodations that are not only the best, but the best examples of the spirit and style of each stop along your way.”

The price tag for this exclusive holiday? A cool US$69,875 per person based on double occupancy. The next tour is tentatively scheduled for January 13 to February 6, 2008.
