VERTU - Hand-Crafted
Communication

Take flight with Vertu Constellation, the new collection of luxury mobile phones that represents a new definition of world class.
The first mobile phone, the Motorola DynaTAC 8000X, was not overly mobile at all. It had a talk time of sixty minutes and took ten hours to recharge, while weighing a ton and having the sex appeal of a refrigerator. It was, however, undoubtedly a momentous technological breakthrough, as the landscape of person-to-person communication was changed forever. Indeed, with its price tag of US$3995 back in 1983, the DynaTAC was not something meant for mass-consumption.

Fast-forward to today, and mobile phones have shrunk in both size and price. Advances in cellular technology have made modern cell-phones smaller, better, and cheaper. A necessity to most, they are probably the most ubiquitous personal gadgets around today.

Yet in 2002, the Nokia-linked company Vertu took the bold step of re-injecting exclusivity back into the mobile phone market. Boasting exotic materials, sleek designs, and excellent craftsmanship, the Vertu Signature phones shifted the focus from hand-held to hand-crafted. In doing so, Vertu single-handedly created a new product segment: the luxury communication device.

The company has since gone from strength to strength, incorporating diamonds into its flagship Signature collection, and then introducing the racecar-inspired Ascent collection.

The latest in the Vertu line-up is the Constellation collection. Inspired by classic aircraft, the Constellation targets the international jet-set with features like real-time flight tracking and currency conversion.

With a design that is equally at home in the luxurious cabin of a private jet or in the sobriety of a boardroom, the Constellation cuts an extremely sophisticated, yet understated presence.

With a mix of high-grade materials like top-class European leather, sapphire crystal display, as well as stunning ceramic number pads (on certain models), the tactility of the entire phone is simply delightful, albeit slightly addictive.

In keeping with Vertu tradition, the Constellation also comes with Vertu Concierge, a one-button access to lifestyle services 24 hours a day from virtually anywhere in the world.

The Constellation hits stores this month.
