Chicago-based architecture firm Adrian Smith & Gordon
Gill, lauded for their design of the first building with zero waste, continues
to set new standards of green design with their work on the Wind Towers of King
Abdullah Economic City’s Financial Island in Saudi Arabia.
The Wind Towers are set to anchor each corner of the
financial sector, with the 120-story landmark tower highly visible from any
vantage point in the city.
The design of the tower extends beyond mere
aesthetic achievement; the sustainable tower also has a photovoltaic exterior,
and will be able to generate energy using winds from the surrounding Red Sea.
A
separate hotel tower located on the eastern edge of the island will be
approximately 80 stories high, and will provide stunning panoramic views of the
harbor.
