Known as Madinat
al-Hareer to the locals, the upcoming US$132 billion, 250 sq km City of
Silk in Kuwait Bay looks set to be one of the most modern, luxurious economic
and residential hubs in the world when it becomes fully operational in 2023.
Acting as a passageway from Kuwait to Israel, the city’s centerpiece is
undoubtedly the 1,001 meter-tall Burj Mubarak al-Kabir (the tallest tower in
the world) which will trump the Burj Al Arab in Dubai and dwarfs the Taipei
101.
There’s also a sprawling wildlife sanctuary, multiple parks, a rail network
to Damascus, Baghdad, Iran and China, Olympic Stadia, hotels, retail facilities
and homes for up to 700,000 people. The Kuwait Center for Strategic Studies is
spearheading the project, and seems confident of meeting their 15-year
deadline.
