While recording devices and computer functions integrated
into mobile phone functions have become consumer expectancy, Livescribe puts it
all into a pen.
Livescribe’s Pulse smartpen records what you write in audio as
you write it, making it the closest to real-time transcription. You can then
replay anything that you’ve written just by tapping what you have written. The
Pulse also includes an infrared camera so you also have the option to capture
your notes digitally and transfer your notes to PC.
Touted by the manufacturers to function as a mini computer,
it comes with dual microphones, a speaker, a headphone jack, an OLED display
and operates on Windows XP or Windows Vista. And all of this is packaged into a
sleek ergonomic pen aesthetically cased in charcoal blue aluminum housing.
The
Pulse smartpen however only functions with the special dot paper that is
designed explicitly for the pen, which would limit its potential for daily use.
The pen retails at US$149 for the 1GB flash memory and US$199 for 2GB.
