Samsung officially announced the release of the Samsung
Omnia (otherwise known as the SGH-i900) in the product’s global launch in Singapore today.
The name Omnia apparently means ‘everything’ in Latin and ‘wish’ in Arabic, and
serves to underline the Korean electronics giant’s promise of an “all-in-one”
phone that gives users “everything you wish for in your mobile”.
As covered in our previous article on the SGH-i900, the
Omnia is based on a Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system, sports a 3.2-inch
WQVGA LCD screen for ideal movie viewing, and MultiCodec support for the most
widely used video formats.
Other notable features include a five-megapixel camera with
auto-focus, face and smile detection, GPS, 8 or 16 GB of internal memory, and
Samsung’s patented TouchWiz user interface for easy text messaging and data
inputs. The phone will be available June 17 with a recommended retail price of
SG$1,098 (US$799).
