Dubai is fast becoming one of the world’s most prominent
hotspots for modern architecture, making the launch of the first Museum of
Middle East Modern Art in the region seem like a natural step.
Located in the
40 million sq. ft. Culture Village on the banks of Dubai Creek, the surreal
structure aims to celebrate the region’s artists and the art that they produce,
which in turn acts as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to highlight the
cultural diversity of the UAE.
The Museum also houses an amphitheatre for live
performances and international cultural festivals, an exhibition hall, and a
shipyard. The building itself is designed by the Netherlands-based UN Studio,
responsible in the past for projects such as the Mercedez-Benz Museum in
Stuttgart and the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum in Hartford, USA.
