Leading manufacturer of GPS navigation devices Garmin have
unveiled the prototype of their first mobile phone, the nüvifone at the
CommunicAsia conference in Singapore.
The touchscreen phone combines the company’s cutting-edge navigation
system with a mobile web-browser in a slim all-in-one device.
The nüvifone is also the first touchscreen device of its
kind to integrate quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity, tri-band 3.5G
capabilities, an internet browser, Wi-Fi connectivity, personal messaging and a
personal navigation system.
The 3.5-inch touch-responsive display offers a
user-friendly interface where the phone functions are easily accessible. Other
features include a camera, video camera and MP3/MP4/ACC, and personal
navigation applications, such as geo-tagging. Pricing has not been confirmed
but the nuviphone is expected to be launched in the fourth quarter of this
year.
