Nearly a year after Sony introduces its glass-tube speaker prototype called Sountina, the Japanese electronics giant has just announced that it will start producing these transparent audio tubes.

Sony says these 6-foot tall (or a little over 1.8m), non-directional speakers are capable of a 360-degree sound projection, based on the company’s “Vertical Drive Technology”. Essentially, this refers to the woofer located at the bottom, a mid range unit on top, and a tweeter that makes use of the vibrating, resin tube.

In addition to a frequency response of 50 – 20,000 Hz with S-Master digital amplifier and DSP processing, the Sountina speakers also come with an analog RCA jack, a digital coaxial, and up to 24bit/96kHz Linear PCM stereo support. A choice of three different illuminations lets you create the ambience of your living space to suit your mood.
