An impressive new supercar, the 9ff GT9, looks set to join
the ranks of the Bugatti Veyron, the Koenigsegg CCX, and the SSC Aero Twin
Turbo as one of the fastest exotics in production today.
The 9ff GT9 is based on a heavily modified version of the
Porsche 911 GT3, with its chassis extended and roof lowered to reduce drag, and
a body of carbon fiber and Kevlar to reduce weight. Powered by a mid-mounted,
twin-turbo 4.2-litre flat-six engine, it produces 987 bhp.
Engineered for speed, safety and comfort measures have been
scaled back in the GT9, unlike other supercars. Most notably, airbags, traction
control and electronic stability control are not part of the package.
At a recent testing at the Papenburg high-speed track in
Germany, the car clocked a monstrous 253 mph, just 2 mph shy of the world
record, held by the SSC Aero Twin Turbo for the world’s fastest car. At
£350,000 (or more than US$680,000) each, only 20 of these exclusive supercars
will be produced.
