Patek Philippe held back this wonder at BaselWorld this year
but word of this development from their Advanced Research department has
already got hearts aflutter among collectors and enthusiasts.
Like the previous references in this range, Ref. 5250 and
Ref. 5350, this model features the latest chapter in Patek Philippe’s silicium
adventure. With the latest reference, the three most important components of
the escapement – the hairspring, the balance wheel and the anchor – are now in
silicium.
To be more precise, the anchor or pallet fork is now in
Silinvar®, as the Geneva brand calls it. Created through the ultra-modern DRIE
(Deep Reactive Ion Etching) process, watches bearing the new Silinvar®
components represent the nouvelle vague of watchmaking. Further specifications
of this watch were unavailable at press time.
