The Lucida, a 21-storey property by Extell Development on
Manhattan's Upper East Side, promises luxurious living with an eco-friendly
conscience.
Designed by acclaimed architects Cook + Fox, the Lucida
resembles a shimmering glass palace, its frit glass curtain walls bathing its
interiors in warm natural light.
Local, recycled and renewable materials were used in its
construction. Rainwater is channeled to the water-efficient landscaping
features. The developers have also eschewed using indoor materials that emit
common pollutants. The choice of using light-colored roofing materials and
pockets of planted green roof help cool the building naturally.
This explains the LEED (or Leadership in Energy and
Environmental Design) green seal of approval from the U.S. Green Building
Council.
Award-winning interior designer S. Russell Groves is
responsible for the interiors of all 110 units of the Lucida –
chocolate-stained solid oak floors, 10-foot ceilings, and expansive windows.
The units range in size from two bedrooms (1,445 sq ft) to five bedrooms (3,500
sq ft).
Eight duplex penthouses at the Lucida boast double-height
ceilings, fireplaces and large outdoor spaces with spectacular views of the
city.
Groves also designed the lobby, kitchen cabinetry, bathroom
vanities, and worked with a team of wellness specialists from the onsite La
Palestra Fitness, Wellness and Spa Center to design the spa’s facilities. These
include an indoor lap pool, whirlpool, sauna, steam and treatment rooms, yoga
and weight-training facilities.
Other facilities at the Lucida include a 24-hour concierge
and doorman, residents lounge with catering kitchen for private events, game
room, wine cellar, bike storage, and refrigerated lobby storage.
Prices for the residences start at US$1.95 million.
Occupancy is slated for late 2008.
