Just as only two great teams contend
consistently for Formula One glory, conventional motoring wisdom
acknowledges only two great sports car makes in any given generation.
Currently, neither is Swedish but Koenigsegg has a twin-supercharged
cast-aluminum 5.0-litre V8 heart set on top-flight honors for the CCX
and CCXR Limited Editions.
While the Swedes have upped the horsepower
(888 and 1,018, respectively), the real story is in the “fully
visible carbon body,” a detail that makes these cars resemble
stealth fighters.
Performance-wise, this also contributes to both
models’ superior weight-to-power ratios (1.44kg/hp and 1.26kg/hp
respectively). Speeds top out at 400+km/h (CCX) and 417+km/h (CCXR)
but both models do 0-100km/h in 2.9 seconds. As one might expect of a
Swedish marquee, the CCXR model can run on E85 ethanol, thanks to its
bio-flexi fuel capabilities. Koenigsegg will produce 14 of the CCX
and six of the CCXR, each retailing at US$1,970,000 and US$2,220,000
respectively.
