Just
when furniture appeared to be resting on its Philippe Starck laurels, along
comes this uplifting experience. With a similar concept to Ruissenaars'
Magnetic Floating bed, which
we covered in 2006, this translucent wonder from British firm, Hoverit Ltd is
effectively the mag-lev of lounge chairs. Called "The Lounger", it uses repelling magnetic forces in both bed and base to create this
first example of tomorrow's furniture.
Built using a combination of what the company calls
precision engineering and a built-by-hand
philosophy, The Lounger also supposedly offers
potential benefits for people with bad backs, muscular problems and
headaches.
The first of the company's planned magnetic hovering range of furniture,
this handsome and altogether contemporary
chair is a limited edition.
