Movie memorabilia has just been taken to a new level.

In the critically acclaimed film “Lust, Caution”, viewers would undoubtedly remember the dazzling diamond ring worn by lead Tang Wei’s character, and the ring proved to be a pivotal plot device in the movie.  The very same 6.1 carat diamond ring has now been flown from Paris for display in Singapore.

Given its importance to the plot, Director Ang Lee specially asked Cartier to design and create the ring. In order to be faithful to the movie’s setting in 1930s Shanghai, Cartier examined its historical archives for custom pieces of that era, and recreated this ‘colonial-style’ design.

The ring itself comprises of two circles of diamonds that hug a large pink diamond in the centre. Indeed, the Chinese title of the movie is also a homonym for ‘coloured ring’. For full authenticity, the stones of the ring are also set in the same way as they would be during that era.

The ring will not be offered for sale and will remain Cartier’s property. It will be displayed for public viewing, at the Cartier boutique at Ngee Ann City for the duration of the Chinese New Year.
