Luxury Living in Africa : A Market Overview by Khalil & Kane Property Acquisitions

Namibia

Recently receiving plenty of media coverage as the chosen birthplace for Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s baby, Namibia has plenty to offer in terms of luxury and adventure. Home to tourist attractions such as the Etosha National Park and the Namib Desert, Namibia has been the holiday destination of choice for quite some time.

Home to tourist attractions such as the Etosha National Park and the Namib desert, Namibia has been the holiday destination of choice for quite some time. This is a country rich in history, as it was the site of struggle between the British and the South Africans in the South African War. Namibia is one of the African countries with the lowest populations. There are many new developments springing up, especially in Swakopmund, Windhoek and Walvis Bay. These encompass complexes of luxury villas and apartments along the coast. Erongo in Swakopmund is looking especially promising in terms of new luxury developments being planned. There are also many new developments being planned on “Millionaire’s Row”, an exclusive stretch of property in Swakopmund.

Tanzania

Tanzania has, until now, remained free from large-scale developments and thus has retained a sense of the natural beauty of the area, especially its beaches on the Eastern shore.

There are many magnificent sights in this region, such as Mount Kilimanjaro in the Northeast and Lake Victoria as well as Lake Tanganika. There is also the Ngorogoro Crater and the Serengeti National Park in the north. There are many luxury beach villas for sale at relatively low prices and it is possible to buy a number of villas to be converted into luxury resorts and hotels.

A bit of history: Tanzania was the setting of the Maji Maji War of 1905, the biggest and bloodiest rebellion that Tanzania has ever seen. The battle of Tanga was also fought here between Britain and Germany during World War I.

Zanzibar

An island just off the coast of Tanzania, the main industry of Zanzibar is tourism. With the absence of the high-rise buildings springing up everywhere, this area retains the natural beauty for that it has become famous.

Zanzibar is widely known as a holiday destination, with plenty of nightclubs and entertainment on offer. The luxury property market has not taken off in this area, as most people prefer to spend shorter periods of time on holiday here. There are, however, many luxurious beach villas and apartments that can be bought here. End of article
